Description
Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) proposes to update its safety management systems (SMS) to adopt performance-based requirements and to align requirements with ICAO recommendations and other international standards. However, the update will not extend SMS requirements to air taxi and charter operators under CAR 703 and 704. Currently, SMS requirements apply to private operators (CAR 604), airlines (CAR 705), specific-size airports, and maintenance organizations. The TCCA said that extending SMS application to all commercial operators will be the subject of a separate proposal, the timeline of which hasn’t yet been established. Comments on the current proposal are due by March 4, 2024.
