Boeing has confirmed plans to make a further investment of $1 billion in its Charleston, S.C., factory. The expansion of the site, for which the purchase of further land has already been agreed, will see the creation of a new information technology development center and an increased role for the plant in production of the 787 Dreamliner. Over the next eight years the move is projected to create at least 2,000 new jobs. According to local press reports, approximately $120 million of the investment will be come from new state bonds, with legislation to allow for this set to be introduced in the South Carolina legislature. As of press time, Boeing had yet to issue a formal statement detailing its new plans for Charleston, but the move was confirmed by company.
