It was at the Paris Air Show in 2011 that Sensichips, an Aero Sekur company (Hall 1 F294), announced it would be developing low-power, microchip-based sensor systems for the aerospace and defence sectors. Applications would include integrity monitoring, robotics and early identification of CBRN (chemical, biological radiation and nuclear) hazards.
Now, Sensichips, using public funding, is conducting a technology study on the feasibility of applying a layer of sensors directly onto composite structures. The objective is to provide a low-cost, easy-to-apply method of adding health-monitoring capability to the structures of both existing and new aircraft. As part of the research, Sensichips will ensure the integration of the new sensors with its SC200 microchips.
Mark Butler, chairman of the Aero Sekur group, said, “We are continuing to make significant investment in people, facilities and technologies to carve a niche on the global market as survival-system specialists for the aerospace and defence sectors.”
Sensichips is based at Aero Sekur’s primary manufacturing facility in Aprilla, Italy.
