Airbus has joined the Virginia’s Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM), an industry, academic and government consortium dedicated to manufacturing breakthroughs and advancements in applied research, the two parties announced yesterday at the show.

Governor Terry McAuliffe of Virginia appeared with Charles Champion, Airbus executive vice president of engineering, and several other consortium and Airbus officials at a signing event at the Airbus chalet.

“Innovation, that’s how you grow, that’s how you diversify an economy,” said McAuliffe. “I want to [recognize] the great work that CCAM does bringing universities together with the private sector, working with the governmental entities to all come together to make sure we’re getting the most innovative, state-of-the-art technologies and then ultimately taking those out to the market and, for me as governor, ultimately getting new jobs created.”

Apart from Airbus, CCAM aerospace industry members include Chromalloy, Rolls-Royce and Aerojet Rocketdyne and the NASA Langley Research Center. Academic partners include the University of Virginia, Virginia State University, Virginia Tech and Old Dominion University.
