Performance-based operations PARC wants PBN procedures to retain RNAV in title.
Content Body

The performance-based operations aviation rulemaking committee (PARC) recommended that PBN procedures in the U.S. retain “RNAV” in the procedure title, despite ICAO adopting “RNP” in the title. In addition, the procedures will include only a single navigation specification shown in parentheses in the procedure title and that every PBN procedure will contain a requirements box in the briefing strip portion of the chart.

These were some of the highlights from the recently released minutes of the Government/Industry Aeronautical Charting Forum's April meeting in Reston, Va. The FAA's Mike Webb added that training will be needed by the general aviation community to usesuch procedures expected to be in place by 2022.

The decommissioning of VORs in the U.S. was also discussed. Previous estimates claimed some 50 percent of U.S. VORs might be decommissioned, but that number has been revised down to 33 percent by the 2025 deadline. A list of VORs initially selected for decommissioning is expected to be made public sometime this year.
