Embraer broke ground yesterday on its new 50,000-sq-ft aircraft seating manufacturing facility in Titusville, Fla. In June, Embraer acquired Irwindale, Calif.-based Aero Seating Technologies, which provides “luxury seating solutions” for the aviation industry, and announced that it would build a new manufacturing base for this business in Titusville.

The facility—expected to open in the second quarter of next year—will handle design, development and production of luxury seats for Embraer’s business jets and airliners. “The new Embraer Aero Seating Technologies facility in Titusville will enable us to offer our customers the most advanced seating products,” said Embraer president and CEO Frederico Fleury Curado.

This project marks the start of the fourth Brevard County-based facility for the aircraft manufacturer and its first within the city of Titusville, the others being in nearby Melbourne. It is also the first major project announcement to take place within the aerospace-focused Spaceport Commerce Park in northern Brevard County.
