Content Body

The FAA is proposing to greatly expand restricted airspace along V-139 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Restricted airspace under the new guidelines, to be designated R-6604C, D & E Chincoteague Inlet Va., along V-139 would reach up to 3,500 feet msl. Victor-139 is one the busiest airways used by general and business aviation aircraft in the Middle Atlantic. The proposal also added a minor change on two points in the boundary of existing area R-6604A to match the updated three-nautical-mile line from the U.S. shoreline as defined by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The new airspace is being created to support the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Wallops Island Flight Facility requirements for possible UAS activity. Comments are due October 26 and should be submitted in triplicate to the Docket Management System (see FAA Docket No. FAA-2015-2776 and Airspace Docket No. 15-AEA-5).
