Miami, Fla.-based Avionica (Booth C11843) is taking airborne flight data transfer to the next level with its avCM, a tiny fourth-generation 4G cellular module designed for increased high-speed transmission of flight data.

The company announced that the FAA has issued a supplemental type certificate (STC) for the avCM, which is compatible with Avionica’s current quick access recorder (QAR) products, including the miniQAR MKIII and avSYNC support tools. The QARs are installed on more than 8,000 aircraft worldwide.

According to Avionica, the avCM 4G module has the capability to transmit flight data analysis up to six times faster than previous 3G modules. This STC is Avionica’s 18th, and the company also has multiple certification approvals from Transport Canada, EASA, UAE’s GCAA and China’s CAAC. Its products are approved on more than 250 aircraft models under the FAA’s approved model list STC.

“The 4G avCM is the natural technology advancement in cellular design for getting flight data off an airplane,” said Raul Segredo, Avionica’s president and CEO. “It is lighter, has no external antennas and no longer requires a battery. And it’s in compliance with the FAA approved model list on 250 aircraft types, including almost every Part 25 business jet,” he continued. “It is so simple to install, set up and start transmitting. Frankly, this is the enabler that makes our mini quick access recorder products faster, more reliable and less expensive for streaming and capturing flight data.”
