The Aeronautical Repair Station Association (ARSA) and several other industry groups have asked the FAA to withdraw draft Advisory Circular 43-210A, “Standardized Procedures for Requesting Field Approval of Data, Major Alterations and Repairs” and “instead work with industry to clarify existing information and guidance on approving data for major repairs and alterations.” The groups are planning to hold four online sessions to examine these issues and then discuss possible resolutions with the FAA, ARSA said.
The maintenance industry wants the FAA to "distinguish among and between the types of maintenance providers and operations to accommodate: aircraft-specific maintenance and alteration actions under air carrier rules and Part 91 operators and operations; other product-specific maintenance and alteration actions [for] aircraft engines and propellers; and maintenance and alteration actions taken by and for air carriers and repair stations on components." The online sessions will specifically address the differing advisory material associated with approving engineering data for major repairs and alterations.
