Content Body

The FAA is reviewing a proposed noise-compatibility program submitted for Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, Calif. (to be rebranded as Hollywood Burbank Airport). This proposal and its accompanying noise exposure maps were submitted under the provisions of FAR Part 150, which provides the regulatory guidance and technical support for airport noise-abatement programs.

An airport operator who has submitted noise exposure maps that are found by the FAA to be in compliance with the requirements of Part 150 can submit a noise-compatibility program for FAA approval. This then sets forth the measures the operator has taken or proposes to reduce existing “non-compatible land uses and prevent the introduction of additional non-compatible land uses.”

One of the agency’s primary considerations in the evaluation process is whether the proposed measures “may reduce the level of aviation safety or create an undue burden on interstate or foreign commerce.” The proposed noise-compatibility program for Bob Hope Airport is scheduled to be approved or disapproved by the FAA on or before November 7. A public comment period ends July 11.
