The FAA is holding a series of webinars and public workshops from now until February 8 on upcoming airspace improvements in Southern California that will replace dozens of conventional air routes with new satellite-based routes. Phased-in implemention of the project, which is expected to increase airspace efficiency, began in November and will run through April.
Its first webinar, covering upcoming changes to areas around Los Angeles International and Santa Monica Airports, will be held tonight from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. (PDT). That will be followed by another one at 8 p.m. (PDT) covering Los Angeles International, Burbank, Van Nuys, Santa Barbara and Camarillo Airports, as well as Point Mugu Naval Air Station. Two more webinars will be held tomorrow night.
The first of the 10 scheduled public meetings about the airspace route changes will take place on Monday in Culver City. Follow-on meetings will be held throughout Southern California, concluding on February 8 in Long Beach. The webinars and briefings will address only the improvements that are occurring in March and April, the FAA noted.
