Global fuel provider Shell Aviation (Stand S16) has signed a fueling concession agreement that will make it the sole jet fuel supplier at Oman’s Salalah International Airport. The company will now supply jet fuel at the two largest airports in the country: Salalah and Muscat International Airport, where it already has an operation.

“We see significant potential in Salalah and we aim to support their growth by providing our extensive expertise in fuel supply,” said Anne Anderson, Shell Aviation’s vice president, during the signing ceremony. “We are pleased to add Salalah to our global network as we also mark 55 years of operations in Oman.”

In 2015, Salalah International Airport was expanded to enable it to serve one million passengers per year as part of Oman’s strategy to further develop the area as a tourist destination. The airport has also been designed to allow for further expansion that could enable it to cater to up to 6 million passengers annually.

“Shell Aviation’s operational and safety capabilities were decisive factors for us,” explained Salalah Airport’s general manager, Salim Awadh Said Al Yafaey. “Efficiency and supply security will be key in achieving our ambitious vision for the airport and Salalah. We believe Shell Aviation is the right choice to help us get there.”

Customers at Salalah will experience Shell’s fuel supply security backed by the company’s integrated supply chain, as well as product quality assurance; professional account management providing a single focal point for fuel requirements across its global network; and access to local expertise by leveraging Shell's more than half-century of aviation experience in Oman.
