GPMS International has released an open HUMS Program Manual to help rotorcraft operators turn health monitoring data into repeatable operational decisions.
Content Body

GPMS International has released a health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) program manual and is making it openly available to the rotorcraft industry to help operators convert HUMS data into repeatable, real-world decisions, regardless of the system in use. It is designed as a flexible template that operators can adapt to their aircraft, missions, and risk tolerance.

The guide is intended to provide a structured starting point for operators that have not previously established a formal HUMS framework, while supporting safer and more effective use of health monitoring across mixed fleets. GPMS noted that while HUMS adoption continues to expand across air medical, utility, and government operations, many organizations struggle to move beyond data collection.

“HUMS data is only valuable if it actually influences decisions,” said GPMS director of customer success Josh Kethan. “Most operators understand the technology, but where they often struggle is building the internal processes that make HUMS part of everyday maintenance dispatch and safety discussions. This manual gives them a practical starting point.”

Rather than emphasizing sensors or analytics, the manual focuses on program structure, accountability, and sustainability. It outlines defined roles, review cycles, and decision pathways, and includes templates for logs, reports, and monitoring activities. GPMS said the guide reflects a broader industry shift toward proactive HUMS use to identify early degradation, reduce unscheduled events, and support safety management systems.
