Content Body
Boeing has cut a familiar feature of Boeing 737s with its new-production aircraft. New 737s are no longer being built with the four eyebrow windows above the pilot and copilot positions. Eyebrow windows, also a feature on Sabreliner business jets, provide pilots with more visibility (and frequently more glare), but Boeing says its “advanced navigation systems have made these windows obsolete.” According to Boeing, the design change reduces airplane weight by 20 pounds and eliminates about 300 hours of periodic inspections per airplane. Retrofit kits to provide plugs in place of the windows are scheduled to be available by summer.
