Content Body

Lynnwood, Wash.-based Eldec Corp. is gauging interest among bizav operators in its new flap skew detection system developed for the Canadair Regional Jet. Used to monitor aircraft flap actuation systems and provide control output before a flap skew condition arises, the system has proven more reliable than RVDTs (rotary variable displacement tranducers) and resolvers, claims Eldec. Meanwhile, its proximity sensing technology simplifies installation, allowing for easy retrofit onto existing aircraft, according to the company.

Although Eldec has offered skew detection components for high-lift systems on large commercial aircraft since 1992, the Bombardier CRJ-200 will become the first regional jet to use the technology when it incorporates the new system in new production examples by the end of this year. Because it custom-designs the system for individual aircraft types, Eldec does not publish a list price for the system.
