Trip Accepts First E190

Brazil’s Trip Linhas Aéreas took delivery of its first Embraer E190 last month during a ceremony held May 5 at the manufacturer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, in the state of São Paulo. The airline already flies nine 86-seat E175s and plans to collect nine 110-seat E190s by year-end.

Already the largest regional airline in South America, Trip serves 82 cities with a fleet of 43 aircraft. The largest airline in the world–St. George, Utah-based SkyWest Airlines–owns 20 percent of the Brazilian regional, majority controlled by the Caprioli and Águia Branca groups. 

In March Trip and fellow Brazilian airline TAM signed a letter of intent to extend the code-share agreement between the two companies. Under the terms of the LOI, TAM may acquire as much as a 31-percent minority holding of Trip’s total capital.
