B100 version of Superjet features increased takeoff weight with increased engine thrust
Content Body

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has awarded type certification for the B100 version of the Sukhoi SSJ100, featuring increased-thrust Powerjet SaM-146 turbofans. The 16,100-pound-thrust engines, which Sukhoi also installs on the airplane’s long-range version, give the B100 a range of 1,645 nm with a typical payload under standard atmospheric conditions, a maximum takeoff weight of 101,148 pounds and a 10-percent reduction in takeoff distance compared with the base version.

Certification of the B100 marks another milestone in a large-scale program aimed at expanding operating conditions for the SSJ100. Notably, the improved takeoff performance will prove attractive to Western European airlines that operate into short runways within city centers, according to Sukhoi. The company also expects the B100 to appeal to potential customers in the BRICS countries, where several airfields located at altitudes as high as 11,000 feet require the increased thrust rating the airplane offers.

EASA’s award follows certification of the B100 in Russia in December 2015.
