David Neeleman’s startup airline Breeze Airways has delayed its debut until sometime next year due to drastically depressed U.S. markets resulting from Covid-19, a company spokesman confirmed on Monday.
Originally planning to start serving midsize cities pairs lacking nonstop service by the end of 2020, Breeze had agreed to sublease 30 Embraer E-195s from another Neeleman-established airline, Brazil’s Azul, and take delivery this past May. It has also ordered 60 Airbus A220-300s for delivery in April next year.
“We’ll announce more timing details in the months to come,” said the spokesman in response to questions about the precise timing of the launch and planned initial routes.
