Cathay Pacific has collaborated with AXA General Insurance Hong Kong Limited to provide free COVID-19 coverage to all passengers, the Hong Kong-based airline said Monday. The carrier will cover customers who fly from December 7, 2020, to February 28, 2021, for medical expenses related to a Covid-19 diagnosis incurred while overseas. The coverage does not apply to any treatment or testing costs in the passenger’s home country. Coverage for medical expenses related to Covid-19 extends to up to $200,000.

Separately, customers will receive an allowance of $100 per day per passenger for up to 14 days due to Covid-19 to help them during periods of unforeseen and mandatory quarantine.

Meanwhile, Cathay Pacific will ensure that affected customers, as well as their travel companions and any accompanying children, get home. The insurance coverage lasts for a period of 30 days starting from the date of departure, or until the customer returns home, whichever comes first.

Cathay Pacific’s Covid precautions include temperature checks for all passengers; contactless check-in and boarding; antimicrobial coating on check-in counters, kiosks, and other common areas; mandatory facemask wearing by passengers and crew throughout the flight; “enhanced” cleaning of all surfaces; and HEPA filters in the airplanes’ air conditioning systems.
