Curtiss-Wright announced Monday at the Farnborough Airshow that it was selected by Airbus to provide custom electric actuation technology for the main deck cargo door on the A350F freighter. The A350F is a variation of the A350 and will be the first wide-body freighter built mostly of composite materials and is expected to be the only airplane of its kind capable of meeting the latest ICAO CO2 emissions requirements that come into effect in 2027.
Under the contract, Curtiss-Wright will provide an electro-mechanical solution with rotary and linear actuators and control and power electronics to open, close, latch, and lock the cargo door. This solution additionally features a high-voltage DC architecture that minimizes weight, offers improved reliability over legacy systems, and incorporates health monitoring functions.
Lynn Bamford, chair and CEO of Curtiss-Wright, shared the company’s excitement at the company's first electromechanical actuation contract with Airbus and the opportunity to further expand its technologies to the commercial aerospace industry. “In addition, this program closely aligns with our strategy of helping our customers improve the functionality and reliability of their aircraft, including enhanced fuel efficiency, through the use of innovative electromechanical actuation systems,” she added.
