A new sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility will soon break ground in Moses Lake, Washington, Governor Jay Inslee announced during the Paris Airshow on Monday. Twelve Corporation, a California-based clean energy start-up, plans to produce what it calls “E-Jet” fuel using carbon dioxide and renewable energy.
Nicholas Flanders, CEO and co-founder of Twelve, said his company chose to build their SAF facility at this small town in Washington State “because of the availability of green power through hydropower, a source of biogenic CO2, which is the carbon feedstock for our fuel, and the great policies of Washington State that are accelerating the development and deployment of sustainable aviation fuel, green hydrogen, and green power.”
According to Flanders, the new plant will produce one million gallons of the E-Jet fuel per year, with “significant potential to expand beyond that.” He added that Twelve’s SAF will be fueling flights starting in early 2024. The company will hold a groundbreaking ceremony in Moses Lake on July 11.
“This is a tremendous event not just for the state of Washington but for the world because the world needs sustainable aviation fuel," said Governor Inslee. "They need it to be produced in the millions of gallons, and they need to do it as soon as possible—and they need to do it in a way that is green in its process.”
