Heroux-Devtek Spain selected S.S. White Technologies to provide flexible rotary shafts and 90-degree gearboxes for the main deck cargo door drives on Embraer E-Jets Freighters—the E190F and E195F. The former company won a contract from Embraer in November to design, develop, and manufacture the main deck cargo door actuation system for the E190F/E195F Freighter conversion program.
For this application, S.S. White will supply two flexible rotary shafts and 90-degree gearboxes that enable the manual operation of the power drive that operates the door via a pressure-sealed interface through the aircraft’s skin.
Embraer launched the freighter conversion program in March 2022 for all preowned E190 and E195 aircraft and expects entry into service in early 2024. The aircraft manufacturer foresees a market for approximately 700 freighter aircraft in the airplane's size category over the next 20 years.
