Pratt & Whitney’s PW1100G geared turbofan (GTF) engine has been selected by UK flag carrier British Airways to power a new order for 30 Airbus A320neos, with another 33 on option. In addition to the powerplants, P&W will provide maintenance for 12 years under its EngineWise Comprehensive service agreement. Deliveries are due to commence next year. BA’s current A320neos are powered by the CFM International Leap-1A.
Compared with earlier engine generations, the GTF delivers a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and a 75% reduction in noise footprint. GTF engines now power more than 2,800 aircraft in service with more than 90 operators. The order backlog exceeds 8,000. The RTX company’s GTF Advantage is due to enter service later this year, with further improvements in thrust, fuel efficiency, range, and time on wing.
