Final Reports: MISRIGGED CONTROLS FAULTED

Aero Commander 690, Temecula, Calif., Oct. 13, 2001–The NTSB determined that the probable cause of the accident was a misrigging of the engine controls that resulted in an asymmetric reverse thrust condition.

When the right engine did not go into reverse thrust after a normal approach, landing and deceleration at French Valley Airport, the Turbo Commander veered to the left and off the runway. The commercial-rated pilot deselected reverse thrust and tried to stay aligned with the runway. Approaching the end, he decided to take off but the airplane went into grass and hit a boundary fence. The pilot sustained minor injuries and the airplane’s wings and fuselage were substantially damaged.
