Cessna CitationJet 525, Old Bridge, N.J., July 17, 2005–The NTSB blamed the crash of the Cessna CitationJet on the pilot’s improper preflight planning, which resulted in an overweight landing.
Landing at Old Bridge Airport 700 pounds over the maximum landing weight, after an unstabilized approach and an EGPWS aural sink rate warning, the Hertrich Aviation Citation touched down fast on the first one-third of the runway. The ATP-rated pilot realized he couldn’t stop and aborted the landing, but instead of becoming airborne the airplane overran the runway, hitting a number of objects. Performance information showed that, at 10,400 pounds on a wet runway, the airplane needed 3,800 feet for landing, 606 feet more than was available.
The pilot had minor injuries and his two passengers were not injured. The airplane was substantially damaged.
