Cessna Citation 560 Ultra, Upland, Calif., June 24, 2006–The pilot of the Aero Charter Services Citation Ultra canceled his IFR clearance when he saw Cable Airport (CCB), his destination, and crashed while landing on Runway 24. The airplane went straight down the runway and stopped about 200 yards beyond the end. It hit trees and rough, uneven ground and came to rest upright, on a heading of 145 degrees. The nose broke off the fuselage and rolled forward and did not burn with the rest of the airplane, which was destroyed. The commercial pilot and two passengers were seriously injured.
The pilot, who is also the president of Aero Charter, had flown the airplane from CCB for a year; it had been based there for two years. A witness reported that he saw the Ultra touch down about 1,000 to 1,300 feet down the runway, not on the numbers as the pilot usually did. He also said there was a five- to seven-knot tailwind.
Other witnesses heard the reverse thrust and watched the airplane as it rolled off
the end of the runway. Then they saw flames shooting up from the accident area. According to FAA records, the pilot completed training and passed a single-pilot flight check in April.
