Aerospatiale AS 350B/Eurocopter EC 130B4, Homestead, Fla., Nov. 21, 2005– The two helicopters collided near the Homestead-Miami Speedway and the commercial pilot of HelicopterShuttle.com EC 130 N130HS was killed. The commercial pilot of the Biscayne Helicopters AS 350 N264BH was not injured.
According to the NTSB report, both heli- copters were approaching the Motorsports Complex VIP Heliport (Speedway Heliport) to land. VMC prevailed and neither helicopter was on a flight plan. Both pilots announced on “race control frequency” that they were inbound.
Witnesses saw the AS 350 flying southwest of the heliport, and the EC 130 to the west. The AS 350 was slightly higher and to the right of the EC 130 when the collision occurred. The EC 130 descended almost immediately, while the AS 350 continued flying in an easterly direction and landed at the Heliport. Both helicopters were substantially damaged.
