Cessna Citation 525A CJ2, Atlantic City, N.J., May 15, 2005–The pilot of Danish-registered CJ2 OY-JET said he “lost the brakes.” The airplane hit the water after landing at Atlantic City Municipal Airport/Bader Field, but investigators found no abnormalities in the brake systems. The FAA Airport/Facility Directory listed Bader Field as “CLOSED to jet traffic.” The pilot said he performed “one circle” around the airport, saw the windsock and then landed on 2,948-foot-long Runway 11. When the airplane was approximately two-thirds of the way down the runway, the pilot was unable to stop. The airplane went off the departure end of the runway into the water.
The winds were from 280 degrees at 9 knots.
According to the 525A landing distance chart, an airplane with an 11,000-pound landing weight requires 2,930 feet of landing distance with no wind. The airplane requires 3,500 feet with a 10-knot tailwind.
There were no serious injuries. VMC prevailed and an IFR flight plan was filed for the business flight from Burlington, Vt.
