Content Body

In an unusual request, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) last month filed a petition with the FAA asking permission to operate without a rotating beacon. The airport has leased to a warehouse developer the land on which the beacon tower stands and it doesn’t want to pay the $300,000 it would cost to rebuild the beacon at another site. Airport officials claim, “More advanced methods of disseminating airport information to flight crews eliminate the need to operate and maintain a rotating beacon.”
