Cessna 525 CitationJet, Murfreesboro, Tenn., May 16, 2006–The NTSB blamed the CitationJet accident on the pilot’s failure to maintain directional control
while landing on a wet runway.
The left main landing gear collapsed as Interstate Warehousing’s Cessna 525 rolled out after landing at Murfreesboro Municipal Airport. The airplane was substantially damaged, but the ATP-rated pilot and six passengers were not injured. ATIS had reported the wind at three knots from 240 degrees and the runway was wet. The pilot activated the antiskid on final and landed on the first third of the runway. A front was approaching, and on touchdown the wind had changed and heavy rain had started. The CitationJet started hydroplaning, the pilot lost directional control and the jet went off the runway sideways, collapsing the gear. The pilot found that the left flap had separated from the airframe and there was structural damage to the left wing.
