The ubiquitous iPod, hardly less in evidence these days than a cellphone, has found its way into the business jet cabin entertainment system. Lufthansa Technik is offering it as part of its Nice digital cabin management and in-flight entertainment system. The iPod has a special docking station in the aircraft that streams the audio output into the Nice system. The digitally distributed audio signal can then be heard at a specific seat or over the cabin speaker system. Furthermore, iPods can be controlled at the seat through a graphics user interface. Playlists can be chosen and created or songs can be played, stopped and paused, just as if an iPod were in the user’s own hand. It will be available by next summer, according to LHT.
