Investigation has started into a June 2 accident involving Learjet 35 N182K, which crashed in Baker Cove a few hundreds yards short of the runway while trying to land at Groton-New London Airport, Conn. The accident killed the two pilots–Robert Janule and Michael Kiser–but the three passengers escaped with only minor injuries. Weather at the time of the mid-afternoon crash was reported as two miles visibility in mist with broken clouds at 100 feet. N182K is registered to Robertson Asset Management, one of evangelist Pat Robertson’s companies, but he was not aboard. The aircraft was reportedly being operated as a charter by International Jet Charter of Norfolk, Va. Three years ago, two pilots were also killed when their Learjet 35A crashed while on approach to Groton-New London. That aircraft went down after the first officer inadvertently retracted the flaps while the aircraft was in a “low-altitude maneuver using excessive bank,” the NTSB said.
