Boeing to Acquire Parts Supplier Aviall

Aviall, one of the largest independent suppliers of new parts for business, government and commercial aircraft, is being acquired by Boeing. The Chicago-headquartered OEM announced yesterday that it had reached an agreement to buy Aviall for $1.7 billion and operate the company under its current name as a wholly-owned subsidiary. Incorporated in 1993, Dallas-based Aviall operates two wholly-owned subsidiaries: Aviall Services and Inventory Locator Service (ILS). Aviall Services buys new parts from some 220 OEMs and resells them to general aviation, government and airline customers. Aviall Services also provides maintenance for aircraft batteries, hoses, wheels and brakes. ILS operates an online marketplace for buying and selling parts. In addition to manufacturing the BBJ, Boeing serves the general aviation market with its Jeppesen subsidiary, which it purchased in 2000.
