Router does it all

Airbus has made Lufthansa Technik’s Mobile Access Router (MAR) a standard option on the A380. The equipment is described as a fully integrated flying office solution that supports telephone, fax, video conferencing, Web browsing, e-mail, wireless local area network and moving-map functions.

LHT developed the equipment originally for operators of VIP and business jets. It has been integrated in more than 30 such aircraft, and Walter Heerdt, the company’s senior vice president of marketing and sales, said here yesterday that the MAR’s selection for airliner applications was an example of the way innovations developed for the VIP market can be transferred to production aircraft.
