Twin Commander 690A, Antlers, Okla., Oct. 15, 2006–After an in-flight breakup in IMC, Twin Commander N55JS was destroyed and the ATP-rated pilot, copilot and two passengers were killed.
The airplane, owned and operated by the pilot, had departed Wiley Post Airport, Oklahoma City, at approximately 12:30 p.m. on an IFR flight plan and was en route to Orlando Executive Airport. It crashed near the Antlers Airport. ATC and radar data showed that the airplane was on a southeasterly heading at 23,100 feet. At 1:02, it turned 180 degrees to the left, descending at approximately 13,500 fpm. Radar contact was lost at 15,100 feet msl.
Broken into four large sections, the airplane was found scattered over an area approximately three miles long by a mile wide.
