NATA Warns about Fuel Pump Requirement

The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) warned its members of a new requirement imposed by the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries Heavy Weights and Measures Division. According to NATA, the state has decided to apply legal standards for self-serve auto fuel pumps to aviation facilities. These standards include a requirement for all self-serve pumps to have visual indicators of quantity and cost and that all pumps reset to zero when pumping is finished. Self-serve fuel pumps at airports generally show only the total number of gallons purchased, not the total price. NATA is concerned that Alabama’s cracking down on airport self-serve pumps could set a precedent for other states to implement similar standards and policies. The association is working with Alabama officials to help them understand the effect of applying automotive gas station standards to the aviation industry.
