The FAA has scheduled public meetings on its proposal to make permanent the so-called temporary restrictions and the current air defense identification zone (ADIZ) in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The meetings, presented by a panel of representatives from the FAA and other government agencies, will be held on January 12 at Sheraton Columbia Hotel, Columbia, Md., and January 18 at the Washington Dulles Airport Marriott. Those wishing to make an oral presentation (limited to 10 minutes) must submit their requests to the FAA by January 5 for the Columbia meeting and January 11 for the Dulles gathering. Of particular interest to the FAA are comments from aircraft owners and operators regarding the economic and safety effects of the current restrictions. The FAA said it will “consider comments made at the meetings before making a final decision.” Since the proposal was published on August 4, the FAA has received more than 19,000 comments, mostly negative. The comment period closes February 6.
