Jet Aviation, the aviation services company founded in Switzerland in 1967, was recently singled out for a prestigious safety award by its insurer, AIG Aviation of Atlanta. The company’s European aircraft management and charter divisions received AIG’s Operational Excellence Award for 2003.

The objective of the award, said AIG, is to “recognize our clients who have developed quality operational and safety procedures, which are reflected in their loss record and their commitment to the highest safety standards.” This is the first time the award has been given to a business-aviation services company in Europe and only the second time that a company outside the U.S. has been a recipient.

When asked about its “loss record,” Jet Aviation spokespeople told AIN that there have been no fatal accidents in the company’s 36-year history.

Jet Aviation’s U.S. and European divisions jointly operate a fleet of more than 150 business jets worldwide. In 2002 Jet Aviation said it logged nearly 60,000 hours in global flight operations and expects to top that number when all the figures for last year are calculated. Jet Aviation’s various divisions have been insured under AIG Aviation for about 10 years.
