Content Body

The UK Department for Transport is expected to decide early next year whether it will proceed with plans to restrict the amount of time foreign-registered aircraft can be based in Britain. A comment period on the proposal closed October 28. The proposal would limit the amount of time foreign-registered aircraft can be effectively based in the UK to 90 days in any 12-month period. This requirement would not apply to aircraft registered in member states of the European Aviation Safety Agency. According to UK officials, between 500 and 1,500 foreign registered aircraft spend most of the time based in Britain. The department has expressed concerns about "significant differences" between UK requirements and those of offshore registers. The British Business and General Aviation Association is opposed to the proposal.
