Air-taxi Hopeful Pogo Co-founder Burr Quits

Donald Burr recently left air-taxi hopeful Pogo to "pursue other opportunities," according to a company statement. Burr, founder of People Express, and Robert Crandall, controversial chief of American Airlines, were fierce competitors in the 1980s. The pair established Pogo in May 2004 to develop a national on-demand, regional-based air-taxi network using hundreds of very light twinjets. Burr was named CEO and Crandall was appointed president at that time. With the departure of Burr, Crandall now holds both titles. The company did not realize its goal of getting off the ground this year with the first group of an intended 75 Adam A700s, as certification of the new very light jet has slipped to late next year. Pogo executive v-p Cameron Burr (Donald Burr's son), told AIN that the A700s are still on order "in the form of a deposit agreement [north of $1 million]," which Adam and Pogo expect to lead to a final "purchase agreement."
