Factual Report: Caravan II crashes in UK

CESSNA REIMS F-406 CARAVAN II, INVERNESS, UK, OCT. 22, 2004–Cessna Reims Caravan II G-TWIG, operated by Highland Airways, Inverness, Scotland, crashed in mountainous terrain 37 miles northwest of Inverness. IMC was reported in the area. The aircraft was substantially damaged and the pilot was killed. The aircraft had taken off from Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, and was en route to Inverness. A witness said that the pilot had delivered newspapers to the Western Isles. Basil O’Fee, commercial director of Highland Airways, said the pilot was very experienced.

Local authorities reported that the airplane, a turboprop twin based on the Cessna 404 Titan, disappeared from RAF Lossiemouth radar near Loch Broom at approximately 11:30 a.m. The wreckage was located the next day.

The accident is being investigated by the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch, based in Aldershot, southern England.
