U.S.-based Safe Flight Instrument announced that the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) will certify the company’s Powerline Detection System
on the Eurocopter AS 355. The system senses radiating electromagnetic fields from live wires and warns pilots about them.
Working with Paris-based Trans Helicopter Service (THS), which will market the device in Europe, Safe Flight engineers have completed STC certification tests. Acting on behalf of the EASA, the French civil aviation authority has authorized operation of the AS 355F2 equipped with the device. Official issuance of the STC was expected by the end of last month.
