RAYTHEON BEECH KING AIR 200, PITULJA, BOSNIA, FEB. 26, 2004–A King Air carrying Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski, six of his aides and two pilots crashed in the Bosnian mountains, about 50 miles south of Sarajevo. There were no survivors. An investigation of the accident is ongoing, and the NTSB is assisting.
ATC lost contact with the aircraft at about 8 a.m. during poor weather conditions near the city of Stolac, and it disappeared from radar about 20 miles southeast of Mostar,
the aircraft’s destination. The mountainous Balkan region, combined with difficult winter weather conditions, can be hazardous for air travel. According to one report, rain, heavy cloud cover and thick fog in the area caused Albania’s prime minister to cancel his flight to Mostar that day.
