Bombardier CL-600-2B19, Moscow, Feb. 13, 2007–A U.S.-registered Challenger SE (a corporate variant of the Canadair Regional Jet) was destroyed when it crashed while taking off from Moscow’s Vnukovo International Airport. The captain and first officer were seriously injured and a mechanic who was on board sustained minor injuries. The airplane was departing for Berlin Schoenefeld Airport. Weather included snow, a temperature of -6 degrees C, ceiling 110 meters and visibility 1,200 meters.
Russian authorities reported that the jet lifted off about 5,000 feet down Runway 6 and immediately banked sharply to the left. It then banked sharply to the right, and the right wingtip hit the runway. The airplane continued to roll to the right until it was inverted and veered off the right side of the runway.
