Eagle Delivers First ‘Single’ Bell 212

Eagle Copters of Calgary, Alberta, has delivered its first three single-engine Bell 212 conversions. The “Eagle Single” features a single Honeywell T53-17A or B turboshaft engine in place of the 212’s Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6T-3B Twinpac. 

Eagle received STC approval for the conversion on June 5 and delivered the first conversion to Great Slave Helicopters. The single powerplant modification reduces the helicopter’s empty weight by 1,000 pounds, to 5,600 pounds, and increases the internal useful load from 4,600 to 5,500 pounds.

Typical cost of a conversion, with Eagle supplying the airframe, is $3.5 million to $3.7 million, according to company president Mike O’Reilly. He said Eagle plans to deliver four more Eagle singles next year.
