Cessna Citation 550, Marathon, Fla., July 22, 2006 – The NTSB has concluded that the separation of the stud securing the main landing gear actuator assembly side brace to the main landing gear outer cylinder caused the landing gear to collapse. The Citation 550, registered to Capital Buyers of Delaware, was taxiing after landing at The Florida Keys Marathon Airport. The reason for the separation was not determined; the airplane was repaired before the NTSB was notified.
A passenger heard a sound “like a lightning strike” while the jet was descending from 19,000 feet to 15,000 feet. On approach, the pilot lowered the gear and “noticed an extra clunk” sound. He had three green gear lights. The landing was without incident, but on taxiing, the right wing dropped. No one was injured in the incident.
