Lufthansa Technik expects to complete construction of a $71.26 million 161,000-sq-ft production facility at its Hamburg location in early 2009.

“The new hangar is an important element in the expansion of our engine overhaul business unit,” said August Wilhelm Henningsen, chairman of the executive board of Lufthansa Technik AG. “The addition will make it possible to design overhaul production and processes that further reduce turnaround times for engines.” The company estimates the number of engines handled per year in Hamburg will increase from the current 320 to more than 400.

Lufthansa Technik is licensed to perform work under warranty for engine manufacturers General Electric, Pratt & Whitney, CFM International and International Aero Engines, while the large Rolls-Royce engines–the Trent 500, 700 and 900–are overhauled by N3 Engine Overhaul Services (a joint venture with Rolls-Royce)
