The FAA is reopening its investigation of an April 3 ground collision at DeKalb-Peachtree (Ga.) Airport between a Gulfstream II and Beechjet 400A. According to the FAA preliminary report, Gulfstream N309EL, while parked, rolled into Beechjet N407CW, and “no persons were on board, the G-1159 sustained minor damage, the Raytheon 400A sustained substantial damage.” The FAA told AIN that during the initial investigation, “the Gulfstream crewmembers told the FAA that they were the only persons on board N309EL when the ground collision occurred.” In a complaint filed on July 23, however, two passengers who said they were on the Gulfstream during the collision are suing the operator, fractional-share provider Skyview Aviation, for $2 million for serious injuries sustained during the collision. John Robin, the attorney representing the passengers, said the Gulfstream was not parked but had just landed and that the pilots were taxiing the airplane when it hit the Beechjet. The NTSB investigator said the pilots reported that they lost hydraulic power before the collision, information that was not mentioned in the preliminary report. Skyview Aviation did not respond to AIN’s request for comment.
