Canada’s CMC Electronics announced it has signed an agreement to acquire head-up display (HUD) maker Flight Visions of Sugar Grove, Ill. Jim Close, CMC Electronics president, said the acquisition will allow the company to expand the scope of its military aviation cockpit modernization programs for trainers and jets. CMC and Flight Visions already have strong presences in military aviation, and both are also seeking to establish stronger ties with business aviation. For its part, CMC has unveiled SureSight, an infrared enhanced vision system (EVS) for business jets, while Flight Visions is teaming with Universal Avionics to develop a low-cost business aviation HUD. A CMC spokeswoman said the company at this time has no plans to combine its EVS with a civil HUD from Flight Visions as an integrated product, but added that the two systems are compatible. CMC expects the deal to be completed this month, at which time it will announce terms, including the dollar value of the transaction.
