Factual Report: Skydiving flight engulfed in flames

de Havilland Canada DHC-6-100 Twin Otter, Sullivan, Mo., July 29, 2006–Witnesses reported that they saw “flame emitting from the right engine” while the turboprop was taking off from  Sullivan Regional Airport on a skydiving flight in VMC. Shortly after liftoff, another witness heard a “poof” and saw the right engine “engulfed in fire.” The aircraft turned to the right and crashed about half a mile northwest of the end of Runway 24. The 6,000-hour ATP-rated pilot and five passengers were killed.
